Rather than attempt to cover as wide a range of topics pertinent to academic ethics as possible, the editors (a professor and doctoral graduate of Canada's Simon Fraser U.) have sought to focus this collection of 48 previously published papers on what they see as the field's central and defining elements. The opening essays address the classical liberal ideal of the university and contemporary concerns related to that ideal. Discussion of the relationship between universities and business is then presented followed by exploration of the roles of professors and administrators. Papers discussing faculty- student relations touch on such topics as political correctness, harassment, and the role of the erotic in teaching relationships. Remaining papers address collegiality, plagiarism, the need for formal institutional codes, and the overall structure of a credible academic ethic.
