2100 hours, 20 March 2003, western Kuwait. Missiles streaked the night sky like the Fourth of July as American fighting vehicles revved and rattled near the Iraqi border. Distant fires flickered on the horizon. Jittery soldiers reported unidentified objects they thought were enemy tanks.
