Broadband wireless communication has transformed dramatically, leading to advanced technologies like 5G. 5G Narrowband Internet of Things: With Satellite Connectivity and Artificial Intelligence focuses on one crucial aspect of 5G – Narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IoT). Since the first edition in 2019, NB-IoT has evolved with new features introduced in 3GPP Releases 15–18. This edition explores its architecture, protocol stack, and latest enhancements, including satellite connectivity, AI/ML integration, and cloud-based infrastructure. Designed as an accessible reference, it simplifies complex concepts while providing valuable insights into this growing technology.
New to the Second Edition:
- Explores the latest advancements in NB-IoT through 3GPP release 18, including enhanced data rates, lower latency, and new modulation schemes like 16QAM.
- Details the convergence of NB-IoT with satellite networks, expanding global coverage beyond terrestrial limitations.
- Highlights how AI/ML enhances data analysis, predictive maintenance, and intelligent resource optimization for NB-IoT devices.
- Introduces the new NG-eNodeB base stations and cloud-driven 5G core network functionalities.
- Provides insights into NB-IoT's role within both Series 36 (LTE) and Series 38 (New Radio).
- Examines the ongoing evolution of NB-IoT and its expanding role in smart cities, industrial automation, and large-scale connectivity.
This edition offers an accessible yet in-depth guide for researchers, engineers, and industry professionals looking to understand the latest breakthroughs in NB-IoT technology.
