5G Networks & Cybersecurity
The 5G mobile system is a culmination of technological evolution of communication technologies, including IP based services, virtualization, the rise of smartphones, IoT and the convergence of wired and wireless networks. With the evolution of 5G mobile connectivity, its security mechanism needs to adapt to a wide range of users and technological shifts.

This book provides a simplified view of 5G security, bridging the gap between complex technical standards and practical understanding. Technical topics covered in this book include:

Primary and secondary authentications Slice authentications Application-oriented authentication and key management support called AKMA Non-3GPP access and converged wirelinewireless authentication Non-public network UAV USS authentication and authorization Variability in 5G security feature adoption

As mobile networks have become an integral part of modern society and critical infrastructure, this book is a timely insight into how 5G security is structured, applied and shaped by the technological and regulatory forces.
1. 5G Introduction
2. 5G Authentication Mechanisms
3. Nuances of 5G
Security why not all 5G deployments are created equal
Anand Prasad is a Partner at Deloitte Tohmatsu Cyber (DTCY) for multinational cybersecurity services. With over 25 years of experience in all aspects of information and cyber security, Anand advocates risk based holistic security approach. He was Board of Director at Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB), interim CISO of a leading financial institution in Japan, founder and CEO of wenovator LLC (acquired by DTCY), a global provider of cybersecurity services and consulting with top-tier clients right across the telecommunications industry, and Senior Security Advisor of NTT DOCOMO, providing advise on all aspects of information and cybersecurit. Prior to which Anand was Chief Information Security Officer, Board Member, of Rakuten Mobile, the world's leading MNO with the very first cloud-native 4G & 5G network implementation; as CISO, Anand led all aspects of enterprise and mobile network security from design, deployment to operations. Anand has also held key roles in NEC, Genista, Lucent Technologies and Uniden. He was Chairman of 3GPP SA3 where, among others, he led the standardisation of 5G. He is advisor to several organizations, an innovator with 50+ patents, a recognized keynote speaker and a prolific writer with 8 books and 50+ publications. He is a Fellow of IET & IETE, and Editor of Cyber Security Magazine & Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of ICT Standardization published by River Publishers.

Hans Christian Rudolph is a cybersecurity professional specializing in network security, wireless communications, and related technologies. With over a decade of industry experience, he has held various security roles at mobile network operators in Germany and Japan, where he contributed to the secure rollout, operation, and maintenance of diverse mobile network deployments. In this capacity, Hans has been actively involved in the development of 5G security specifications through industry forums such as 3GPP. He currently serves as a Senior Manager at a leading global cybersecurity consulting firm. Hans holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Science and Telecommunications and a Master of Engineering in IT Security and Forensics. Additionally, he is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) and a Certified Cloud Security Professional (CCSP).

Dr. Takahito Yoshizawa received Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (KU Leuven) in 2023, M.S degree in Telecommunication from Southern Methodist University in 2002 and B.S degree in Information and Computer Science from Georgia Institute of Technology in 1992. He has over 30 years of industry experience in mobile communication systems, including product development and standardization, and has experience in engineering work of all phases of mobile system development lifecycle in large multi-national companies as well as small start-up companies. He has participated in and contributed to standardization such as 3GPP, and holds ~20 granted patents on com-munication systems. He is currently a post-doctoral researcher at Computer Security and Industrial Cryptography (COSIC) group in Electrical Engineering department in KU Leuven in Belgium, focusing on research on V2X communication security and machine learning securi-ty.
