Inspired by Toni Morrison’s quote on writing the unwritten book, this book addresses the significant knowledge gap surrounding OSF, a primarily overlooked condition in Western medical literature. Despite being well-documented in Southeast Asia, OSF has been underrepresented in global conversations, prompting a collective effort from healthcare professionals to create a comprehensive resource. This book illuminates the complexities of OSF for clinicians, researchers, and students alike.

Structured to cater to a diverse audience, the book delves into the etiology of OSF, the effects of areca nut and smokeless tobacco, and the importance of histopathological studies while advocating for better understanding and treatment of OSF. The narrative weaves historical context with contemporary practices and calls for action to address the public health implications of OSF. Through collaboration with colleagues and health organizations, the authors provide a holistic guide to inspire further exploration and awareness to tackle the challenges posed by OSF.

This book establishes the gold standard reference text in the field of oral pre-malignant disorder—oral submucous fibrosis (OSF). In this book, the authors present the clinical studies, extensive research, and pioneering surgical treatments garnered during their work of four decades on OSF.
