Prayer is the key to knowing and communicating with God, unlocking a lifelong faith and being the primary bedrock of Christian faith.

Signal Fire explores the myriad of different ways in which we can connect with God, both together and alone. This handy guide provides opportunities to try out different aspects of prayer, equipping young people with a prayer life of their own.

Prayer is a refuge in times when everything else is failing; it's a compass when we're lost and a firework when we're joy-struck. Prayer is the subject of a thousand distinct metaphors, and they're all both true and insufficient. Why? Because prayer is direct connection with God, and the pathway to making sense of life itself.

Signal Fire encourages young people to develop a life of prayer and connection with God and invest in this key practice of lasting faith. Martin Saunders, Director of Innovation at Youthscape, writes an accessible and practical book for teenagers with some points for reflection and discussion at the end of each chapter.

This book can be used alone by a young person or used by youth workers to work through with a group.

"Martin has totally smashed immersive storytelling and practical insights for living a prayer-filled life in such a relatable and easy to read way!" -- Joel Harris, Head of Youth and Student, Kintsugi Hope "Whether you've been following Jesus for a matter of days or years, chances are that you (like me) would like your prayer life to look a little 'holier' than it does. Rather than guilting us over how inconsistent, bored or unconfident we may feel about prayer, Martin's writing is accessible and non-judgmental; the voice of a friend who really wants to help you 'get it' while acknowledging that he's right there alongside you, still trying. From one reader to another: it works. I frequently found myself wanting to put the book down and just pray. I think that's the highest compliment I could pay the author of any book about prayer." -- Katie Madanat, host, Satellites Festival "What if we, these tiny, insignificant, mortal human beings, can connect personally with the all-knowing, all-mighty, eternal divine creator? And what happens if this connecting is the most relevant and rewarding exercise we can involve ourselves in? This connecting is called prayer, and I reckon there is nothing we need to do, want to do, must do, can't do, need help to do, should do more, than pray. Martin is funny, deep, quirky, honest, kind, wise, helpful and engaging. If you have any kind of desire, any kind of spark or ember which wants to learn to take another step in climbing the beautiful mountain of prayer, read this book. The oxygen Martin blows on our barely glowing prayer lives will cause them to catch fire." -- The Revd Canon Chris Russell, Archbishop of Canterbury's Advisor on Evangelism and Witness "Much like a Christian version of Where's Wally, I searched high and low for someone who could communicate the gospel message without being too weird, too perfect, too straight-laced and too serious. Then I found him, Martin Saunders. The entertaining, engaging and upfront writer I needed. The Christian 'Wally', if you will. Jokes aside - Martin has a unique talent for breaking down hefty theological topics into manageable and understandable chunks. Prayer is one of those beasts that we can over-complicate. In Signal Fire, Martin uses his signature style both to demystify and to enrich our understanding of this vital practice. It's the perfect book for anyone who's ever wondered, 'Am I praying right?'" -- Lauren Windle, presenter and author of Notes on Love and Notes on Feminism
