"This clinical book on Sleep Medicine serves as a readable but comprehensive guide for healthcare professionals, whether they are a Sleep Medicine clinician reminding themselves of detailed aspects of a rare complex sleep disorder or a novice provider who is looking to upgrade their Sleep Medicine knowledge base. The text explores the physiology of sleep and circadian rhythms, discusses the clinical sleep assessment with appropriate sleep testing, and reviews common sleep disorders such as insomnia, obstructive sleep apnea, restless legs syndrome, and circadian rhythm disorders. Other highlights from the text include chapters on sleep in special populations and in specific medical disorders as well as a section on the history and future of Sleep Medicine. This book aims to educate practitioners with the knowledge and skills needed to improve patient outcomes and promote overall health through better sleep"-- Provided by publisher.

Publishing over twenty five years after the seminal first edition written by Dr. Michael Aldrich, this second edition of Sleep Medicine examines the developments in this field of medicine over this time, while also offering detailed guidance for practicing clinicians of all levels of expertise. The opening section includes a review of the basic science of sleep, prominent sleep disorders, and the assessment and treatment of those disorders.
