Five weeks after the withdrawal of the legendary Rotterdam (V), Holland America Line introduced the Rotterdam (VI) in November 1997. With her gross tonnage of 59.652 she was and still is a remarkable ship among all cruiseliners. From 2012 the proud flagship of the HAL is sailing year-round from Rotterdam (The Netherlands). Bert Lamers (1950) was interested in the shipping industry from an early age. He worked as a sailor at the Verenigde Onafhankelijke Sleepdienst (United Independent Towing Service) and was one of the editors of the maritime magazine De Blauwe Wimpel. Other than that, he also organized many group cruises.
