Broader interests in cultural history on which he publishes include art, architecture, classical antiquity, ecclesiastical history, garden history, historical theology, and the Nordic world. Campbell is a Fellow of the British Academy, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, and a Member of Academia Europaea, has two honorary doctorates and a Longman History Today Trustees Award (for lifetime contribution to History).
