The book Advances in Implantation Otology is a source of updated information on candidacy, surgery, and habilitation related to implantable hearing devices, all in one place for the professionals. The chapters in the book contain an amalgamation of sound theoretical background and rich clinical experiences of the authors. There are several books on implantable devices in the market, with the majority focusing on cochlear implants, with most of them missing details on other implantable devices, such as bone conduction implants, middle ear implants, auditory brainstem implants, mid-brain implants, and vestibular implants. While these implantable devices are taking rapid strides, often as an alternative to cochlear implantation, the information on them is largely scattered across journal articles and not easily accessible.

This book provides details on vestibular implants, a topic either ignored or only briefly discussed in the existing books, with missing recent updates. This book also provides in-depth information on neuroplasticity and has an exclusive chapter on speech language assessment and therapy of cochlear implantees. A dedicated chapter in the book highlights the pre- and post-implantation vestibular issues in children and adults, an emerging area of concern and focus. The book also has an exclusive chapter on mid-brain implants.

This book covers all kinds of hearing and vestibular implants from the perspectives of otologists (ENT specialists), audiologists, and habilitationists. In addition, this book is a precious commodity for undergraduate and postgraduate students and professional clinicians of otorhinolaryngology and audiology.

Dr. Prawin Kumar is an associate professor at the All India Institute of Speech and Hearing (AIISH), Mysore. He is a graduate in speech and hearing from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, and completed his post-graduation and doctorate in Audiology from AIISH, Mysore. Dr. Kumar has been teaching the subject of implantable hearing devices to audiology undergraduate and postgraduate students for over one and a half decades. He has 63 peer-reviewed publications, 17 best paper awards for scientific paper presentations, and has presented over 100 original research papers at national and international conferences. He is actively involved in the pre-implant candidacy evaluation, post-implantation mapping, and habilitation of the cochlear implantees. He is a life member of the Indian Speech-Language and Hearing Association (ISHA) and the Cochlear Implants Group of India (CIGI). Dr. Kumar served as an Executive Council member of the ISHA for several years, which included roles and responsibilities of Editor of the Journal of Indian Speech Language and Hearing Association.

Dr. Niraj Kumar Singh is an Associate Professor at AIISH, University of Mysore, India. He is an audiologist with a special interest vested in vestibular sciences. While his clinical and research work relates to all domains of vestibular sciences, his recent research focuses on the inter-relationship between the vestibular system and cognition, and balance and cognitive deficits in children and adults after cochlear implantation. He is a life member of the Indian Speech-Language and Hearing Association (ISHA) and the Cochlear Implants Group of India. Dr Singh has 70 peer-reviewed publications in reputed journals, and has won 26 scientific awards, besides presenting over 100 original research papers at national and international conferences thus far. He was the lead editor of two other textbooks and has published 11 chapters in other textbooks.

Dr. Mohnish Grover has completed his M.S. in ENT from AIIMS, New Delhi, and his Senior Residency from PGIMER, Chandigarh. He works as a Professor and Additional Superintendent at the SMS Medical College, Jaipur. He has been working in the field of deafness and cochlear implants. He has several publications in national and international journals. He is also the secretary of the Cochlear Implant Group of India (CIGI). He is a mentor cochlear implant surgeon for over 15 centres globally. He was the chief editor of another textbook and has published chapters in 3 other textbooks.

Dr. Sunil Narayan Dutt is a Professor and Clinical Advisor at Apollo Hospital, Bangalore. He obtained his Ph.D. on Bone Anchored Hearing Aids (BAHA) from Nijmegen University of Netherlands. Dr. Dutt has spent over 32 years in the field of clinical ENT and Implantation Otology, with clinical and research training in the areas of deafness and hearing implants from India, the UK, and Canada. He is a mentor surgeon for implant surgeries across India and abroad. He has over 85 publications in peer-reviewed journals and has presented more than 90 scientific papers at national and international conferences.
