Rubei defines words used in algebraic geometry, provides some references to them, and describes the main theorems about them without proofs. The dictionary is for graduate and undergraduate students and others who know enough about the field to attend lectures or tackle articles, but often not enough to understand everything. She places the definitions and statements within the framework of the basic notions of algebraic geometry today. In some cases she considers items only in varieties over the field of complex numbers. Among the terms she defines are Chern classes, elliptic Riemann surfaces, injective and projective modules, saturation, and symmetric polynomials.
