The book connects global ageing issues to the Indian context while discussing the challenges and responses towards making a society for all ages. It presents previously uncovered subjects like feminization of ageing, medical gerontology growth, informal care needs, and mental wellbeing as interconnected themes.

India's population is rapidly aging, with the number of elderly people expected to double by 2050, representing approximately 20% of the total population. This book highlights ageing issues in India from a wider perspective, bringing in national, regional and global contexts in one frame. It provides a comprehensive analysis of ageing while examining the socio-demographic and epidemiological transitions taking place in this century.

The book connects global ageing issues to the Indian context while discussing the challenges and responses towards making a society for all ages. It presents previously uncovered subjects like feminization of ageing, gender-focused empowerment of older adults, medical gerontology growth, informal care needs, and mental wellbeing as interconnected themes, offering comprehensive insights for contemporary challenges concerning the older population. With expert contributors offering extensive analysis through fresh perspectives, this volume effectively combines theoretical frameworks with practical applications that move beyond conventional approaches to ageing and advances our understanding.

The book would be of interest to researchers and academics working on ageing, social work, health and social care, sociology & social policy, and public health policy and practice. It would also appeal to community workers and non-government organizations personnel.

Arvustused

'This book guides us to explore various dimensions of population ageing both in global and Indian context. It brings together research findings and analyses on issues relating to population ageing from social, economic, cultural, gender, health, and demographic perspectives. It would be a relevant volume for all concerned with population ageing.'

- K S James, Senior Visiting Scholar, Newcomb Institute, Tulane University

'This is a comprehensive book that covers many important aspects around prioritising ageing in Indias development agenda and planning, while drawing lessons from regional and global experience. It is interesting to see articles on less explored subjects like experience of ageing by women and social groups, informal and formal care, and geriatric mental health. This book will be useful for academics and practitioners and all those who wish to understand the future demographic dynamics of India.'
