"Assessment of Communication Disorders in Adults: Resources and Protocols, Third Edition offers a unique combination of scholarly information, invaluable resources, and time-saving protocols on assessment of communication disorders in adults. Most resource books offer limited research and scholarly information, thus making them unsuitable as textbooks for academic courses on assessment and diagnosis. Similarly, most traditional textbooks do not include practical, easy-to-use, and time-saving resources and protocols that the practicing clinicians can readily use during assessment sessions. By combining the strengths of traditional textbooks with newer assessment resources and protocols, this one-of-a-kind book offers a single, comprehensive source that issuitable as a textbook and useful as a practical clinical resource"--

A companion volume to Assessment of Communication Disorders in Children, this text offers resources and protocols for assessing adults with communication disorders, providing clinicians with the knowledge base for disorders and practical protocols for assessment. It provides two chapters for each disorder, one with background information and the other with practical assessment protocols that can be individualized. It covers common assessment procedures and protocols for all disorders, then the assessment of apraxia of speech, dysarthria, aphasia, right-hemisphere disorder, dementia, traumatic brain injury, fluency disorders, and voice disorders. Resource chapters review epidemiology and ethnocultural variables, etiology and classification, associated clinical conditions, assessment issues and procedures, differential diagnoses, and analysis and integration of assessment results, as well as post-assessment counseling and questions clients and family members ask, with answers. This edition has more emphasis and guidelines on making a correct differential diagnosis, recent research on the characteristics of communication disorders in adults, a review of recent trends in diagnostic assessment with critical recommendations for students and clinicians, updated epidemiological research, more concise information on assessment tools and diagnostic criteria, recent standardized and informal assessment instruments, instructions on how to conduct initial interviews and share final assessment results with patients in each protocol chapter, and updated web links for key assessment materials. It has new sections on presbylaryngis, presbyphonia, and the experience of stuttering, and expanded sections on assessing social communication and quality of life after traumatic brain injury. Online access to a companion website is provided. Annotation ©2020 Ringgold, Inc., Portland, OR (protoview.com)
