This book examines the advancements in cartography during the Qing Dynasty in China. From the end of the 17th century, European Jesuit missions were engaged in mapping large areas of China. Apart from the presentation on three particular cartographic exercises and discussion of archival map and related material, emphasis will be placed on the purposes and scopes of the exercises, as well as on the means and styles of representation.
