This book covers in an integrated way the foundations and practical applications on modern chaos-based cryptographic systems. It is aimed at a wide audience: PhD students, engineers in initial training, Master 2 students, specializing in data security and complex networks (satellites, mobile telephony, Internet, Internet of Things, etc.), computer science or in other related specialties (informatics, electronics and mathematics). It is also intended for professionals and trainers, guiding them in the design of new cryptographic systems and the construction of their training courses.First, it provides all the necessary concepts for understanding the principle of standard and chaos-based cryptography. Then, it introduces the elements of chaos theory. Subsequently, it deals with the design, hardware (on Field Programmable Gate Array) and software implementations as well as performance analysis of practical chaos-based cryptographic systems: pseudo-random number generators of chaotic sequences (PRNGs-CS), chaos-based stream and block ciphers, chaos-based hash functions and chaos-based authenticated encryptions.
Safwan El Assad is a retired Associate Professor from Polytech Nantes/University of Nantes, France, since September 2025. From 1988 to 2005, his research activities concerned radar imagery and digital communications, with a background in radar imagery and digital communications. From 2005-2025 his research largely focuses on chaos-based cryptography.Thang Manh Hoang is an Associate Professor of the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST), Vietnam. He received a PhD in 2007 from the Department of Electrical Engineering from Nagaoka University of Technology (NUT), Japan. He was a JSPS (Japan Society for the Promotion of Science) postdoctorial researcher at NUT.René Lozi is Emeritus Professor at University Côte d'Azur (Nice), Dieudonné Center of Mathematics, France. He completed a PhD in 1975 and the French State Thesis (on chaotic dynamical systems) under the supervision of Prof René Thom (Fields medalist) in 1983. In 2023-2025 he was Vice-President of the International Society of Difference Equations. He is a member of several editorial boards of international journals.Fethi Dridi is a researcher in Science and Technology, specializing in secure hardware design. He earned both his Master's and PhD degrees in Electronics from the Faculty of Sciences of Monastir, Tunisia, in 2018 and 2022, respectively. His research focuses on the design and implementation of secure hardware architectures, with particular emphasis on chaos-based cryptography, embedded systems, and hardware security.
