The anthology presents flowers both as admired forms of nature and as symbolic projections of human emotions. The 148-page work is copiously illustrated in color and black and white photography. Many flowers prized in western culture from peonies and roses to orchids and chrysanthemums have a long history of particular associations in Chinese cultures, and these are explored by a wide range of poets from the early Song and Tang dynasties to Ming and Qing periods.
