The sessions are held every odd year at the annual meeting, and unlike must sessions (and subsequent volumes), the unifying theme is not technique or approach, but the object of study: low-dimensional varieties. The 13 papers include discussions of finite group actions of large order on compact bordered surfaces, generalized lantern relations and planar line arrangements, classifying algebraic ordinary differential equations by their rational solvability, circle packings on conformal and affine tori, and the effective radical parametrization of trigonal curves.
