This publication contains a selection of lectures presented at the 8th European Bridging Meeting in Gastroenterology, which was held in Naples last year. Taking place on a regular basis, these bridging meetings are intended to further the cooperation between academic institutions in Eastern and Western Europe. The papers at hand deal with important aspects of inflammatory diseases and neoplasias of the gastrointestinal tract, focusing on screening, prevention and treatment. Moreover, data on emerging issues such as capsule endoscopy and the role of intestinal bacteria are presented.
