This course has two current teaching challenges - good database design and a skills-development approach. Mannino has a wealth of worked out examples (using Access and Oracle database applications) along with a rich number of student projects that require manipulation of sample databases. This pedagogy builds skills via hands-on work. In addition, Students must know how to design database applications and support their designs with Entity Relationship Diagrams (ERD's). Mannino includes ERDs in the text and includes a software design tool, ER-Assistant, bundled with the text. This text is written for use in the core MIS database management course taken at the undergraduate level. This course combines lecture and hands-on projects as the preferred teaching structure. Instructors will be looking for coverage of database management topics with a focus on developing a database application by the end of the course.
