The 20 full papers and eight short papers accepted for the October 2010 symposium present recent research on algorithms and languages for simulation, virtual worlds, large-scale simulation, mobile and sensor networks, and performance issues. Simulation studies apply ambient intelligence to the collective behavior of cars merging from freeway ramps, compare a small-scale emergency exit model to a large-scale simulation, and illustrate a training simulation tool for creating distributed virtual environments. Other topics include a community-based model partitioning approach for networked social dynamics simulation, multilevel predictions for the aggregation of data in global sensor networks, and a global lookahead management protocol for conservative DEVS simulation.
