For much of its history Ealing was a rural village in Middlesex, outside London. Improved communications encouraged its development as a market garden for the capital and later it became an attractive suburb in West London, nicknamed Queen of the Suburbs, a bustling area with beautiful open spaces, historic buildings and even film studios.

In Ealing: A Potted History, local historians Dr Jonathan Oates and Paul Howard Lang look back over the centuries to uncover the fascinating history of the district. Illustrated throughout, this accessible historical portrait of the transformation that Ealing has undergone through the ages will be of great interest to residents, visitors and all those with links to the district.
Dr Jonathan Oates has been Borough Archivist for Ealing since 1999 and has had over twenty books published, mostly about aspects of London's local and criminal history. He has also given numerous talks about Ealing's history. He received his PhD in History from the University of Reading in 2001. Paul Howard Lang is worked for Ealing Library Service since 1966 and has been hospital librarian at St Bernards Hospital since 1982. After carrying out research into the history of the hospital, he developed a great interest for local history and has subsequently given many talks on a variety of topics to a large number of societies. An avid postcard collector, Paul has three published books to his credit.
