A new edition of the soul-enriching, poetic guide through life-changing illnesses that helped many.

Offering solace for chronic or fatal illnesses, Facing Illness, Finding Peace takes readers on a journey toward understanding, acceptance, and peace. A life-changing diagnosis can be overwhelming to patients as they struggle to come to terms with their future. They may mourn their life before the turn in health and grieve what has been lost. In this guide, the poems, reflection questions, and prayers help process the intense emotions, such as shock, anxiety, anger, depression, guilt, and shame, that come from such an event. With themes such as survival, healing, and peace, patients and caregivers will be guided with support as they also navigate the world and people around them, and inspire understanding in their loved ones of the difficult journey ahead.

Facing Illness, Finding Peace: A Poetic Walk with God through Serious Illness by Nancy Groves is a great gift to those struggling with life-threatening illness. Using poetry, biblical verses, and reflective questions, Groves helps navigate readers through difficult terrain. Her book is both insightful and gentle. * Kenneth J. Doka, PhD, Senior Vice-President for Grief Programs, The Hospice Foundation of America * "With wisdom and grace, Nancy Groves perfectly describes the breadth of emotions experienced in the early stages of illness right to the end. Beautifully written, her words help readers make connections, find validation, and receive solace at every point in their journey. Written through a Christian perspective, Groves provides sensitively crafted prayers, relevant scripture readings, and thoughtful reflection questions to gently guide readers to find emotional and spiritual support, and, most importantly, peace. I highly recommend this book for patients and their caregivers, as well as chaplains, clergy, and all healthcare professions who seek a better understanding of illness and the important role of faith in healing. * The Rev. Debra Slade, BCC, Senior Director of Spiritual Care & CPE, Norwalk Hospital, Northwell Health * In the face of illness, which every person will either experience or be impacted by, there is an invitation to grow in grace and perspective. This book opens the inner door of dialogue to think, feel, and pray through suffering, to discover God's healing love. * Philip McGaugh, former Catholic Chaplain, Massachusetts General Hospital * Give this book to anyone who is facing serious or chronic illness. It uses Scripture and prayers that are soothing and comforting to the soul. What a gift! * Patti Moore, RN, BSN, St. Joseph Mercy Oakland Hospital, Pontiac, Michigan *
