Gerontology has all the credits in this digital era as the outcome of health, morbidity, and mortality gains. With changes in the socioeconomic and development arena, structures, utilities, and systems change to accommodate needs, demands, and expectations. Societies move from the baby boom to youth bulge to adult boom to retirement boom, with reforms, restructurings, and transformations in education, health, and public services. The 21st century witnesses 'Elderly Care' similar to the 20th-century 'Maternal and Child Health', inviting information to build enthusiasm, energy, and advocacy leading to teaching, training, and research. As an attempt, this compilation of published research presents the author's scientific contributions, in the form of a training manual, to aid in grooming professionals to care of older persons. The coverage of Indian and Arabian scenarios aids programs crossing national boundaries, with updates, exercises, and question-answers, in today's aspiring educational system to ensure careers with a high quality of life.
Dr Asharaf Abdul Salam specializes in Arab Demography and Gerontology, as an Independent Consultant based in Thiruvananthapuram, India. He has gained academic qualifications in Gerontology and Geriatrics (Malta, International Institute on Ageing; Population Studies (International Institute for Population Sciences, India); and Psychology (University of Kerala, India). Professionally, he served universities in Arab countries (Libya and Saudi Arabia) for nearly two decades. Apart from his duties and responsibilities, he explored the demographic and health scenario of these two countries, the Arabian Gulf and the Arab World. This journey through analyzing trends, patterns, and population scenarios together with his early years of career, as a student and research staff, add to the Population Ageing and Gerontology literature. Thus, his three decades of academic research career in the discipline has been vigorously compiled into a manual for training professionals in building teams, to add life to years, with an Indo-Arab perspective matching the current trends of global education patterns and internships.
