Moses Maimonides (11351204) was a preeminent medieval Jewish philosopher, Torah scholar, and physician. He lived in Morocco and Egypt, among other places. Shlomo Pines (19081990) was a professor in the Department of Jewish Thought and the Department of Philosophy at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem from 1952 until his death. Leo Strauss (18991973) was the Scott Buchanan Distinguished Scholar-in-Residence at St. Johns College.
