Hepatocellular cancer (HCC) accounts for a considerable part of neoplastic disease, and its incidence is constantly rising, not only in Asia, but also among Western populations. Moreover, to the predominant viral etiology have come toxic/metabolic causes. This publication features up-to-date reviews on basic mechanisms, epidemiological risk factors, screening and surveillance strategies. As most patients already suffer from advanced disease upon detection, the main focus is on the most recent advances in locoregional and systemic therapy, which are ideally combined in individualized treatments to achieve longer survival and better life quality.
