This book uniquely features a new concept and idea on short duration (~2.6 hours) cyclic destabilization of as-cast chromium white cast irons in order to achieve microstructures, leading to high hardness with good impact toughness, and subsequent generation of best ever wear resistance. Thus, it differs from all old and existing books or published articles, where mention of long duration (4 6 hours) continuous destabilization of as-cast alloys has been made to produce commercial grade wear-resistant chromium white cast irons. Besides, the book presents various aspects on Physical Metallurgy of chromium white cast irons, involving the concerned phase diagrams, phase transformations, and experimental techniques used for characterizing microstructures and properties of as-cast and destabilized alloys.
Dr Dipak Kumar Mondal holds a Bachelor's of Technology, Master's of Technology, and PhD in Metallurgical Engineering. He served for 38 years (1979 - 2016) as a faculty in the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering at the National Institute of Technology, Durgapur, India (formerly Regional Engineering College, Durgapur, India). Throughout his tenure, Dr Mondal has mentored thirty-five batches of BTech and MTech students, guided seven PhD scholars, and actively contributed to research in the field of iron and steel. He has published over fifty research and technical papers in Science Citation Index (SCI) journals.Dr Siddhartha Sankar Mandal possesses a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Metallurgical Engineering and has served as faculty in the Department of Metallurgical Engineering at Asansol Polytechnic, India since 1998. During his service, he has pursued research following guidance from the first author, thereby publishing five technical papers in SCI journals and acquiring a PhD in Metallurgy in 2018. He continues to teach as a senior faculty member at Asansol Polytechnic.
