In the predawn morning, a young Black girl named Honeybird and her Pop roll up to a nature preserve in their trusty RV and then gear up for Honeybirds favorite activity, birding. The girls narration is buoyant and awed as she enthusiastically searches the trees and skies, traipsing through scenes in some jazzy yellow rainboots and sporty green overalls. The luminous artwork, with brushstroke-like textures and bold saturation, deftly plays with point of view, giving readers a full idea of the natural setting. The various birdcalls Honeybird makes would be particularly useful in a call-and-response storytime, and the birding glossary and thumbnails of more bird info will easily prep little ones for their own outdoor adventure.
