In Ronald Nearn's film of Joyce Cary's classic novel, Alec Guiness (who also wrote the screenplay) tranforms himself into one of cinema's most indelible comic figures: the lovably scruffy painter Gulley Jimson. As the ill-behaved Jimson searches for a perfect canvas, he determines to let nothing come between himself and the realization of his exalted vision. The DVD features an interview with director Nearn, who also oversaw the new widescreen digital transfer. Other features includes D.A. Pennebaker'sshort documentary film "Daybreak Express," a video introduction by Pennebaker, original theatrical trailer, and others.
Comedy about an eccentric artist, recently released from jail, who stops at nothing to get money in order to paint his vision of the creation.
