Dexter is off to the supermarket for his mum. Oh-No! Along the way hes lost the shopping list! Now he must complete his task from memory. That should be easy enough, shouldnt it?

Self-regulation refers to our ability to control our thinking, behaviours, emotional reactions and social interactions to achieve our goals or react appropriately to the situation even if it is difficult to do so. This book aims to support children to focus and sustain attention, resist distraction, persist in the face of challenge and be self-directed. Hallmarks of cognitive self-regulation.
Simon Chadwick is an author, illustrator and cartoonist based in the New Forest in the UK. Hes created over twenty childrens books to date. Simons cartoon work has appeared on childrens material for many of the UKs leading restaurant, leisure and travel brands, and for clients in the UK, America, Canada, South Korea, Greece, the Middle East and Australia. He particularly enjoys drawing wildlife, fantastical beasts, monsters and dinosaurs. Especially dinosaurs.

Dr Steven Howard is a researcher with Early Start at University of Wollongong in Australia. His program of research investigates the development of self-regulation and related abilities in the early years of life, as well as the educational implications of these changing capacities. In addition to his work around supporting childrens self-regulation development (this series and Quincey Quokkas Quest), he is also a co-founder of the iPad-based Early Years Toolbox to assess preschoolers executive functioning and self-regulation (to which Simon Chadwick was also a contributor).
