A charming and emotional standalone grumpy/sunshine romance set during a Nantucket summer, perfect for fans of Sarah Dessen and Jenna Evans Welch!

Lili Gardner hasnt been back to Nantucket, her dads favorite place, since her parents divorced six years ago. But Dad passed away recently, leaving her a house on the island and an unsolved mystery about a maligned Gardner ancestor. Lili is determined to finish his lifes work, and convinces her mom and sister to spend the summer in Nantucket with her while she looks for answers, and for a connection to her dad.

Wren McCleave has a passion for history, but his father refuses to showcase anything real in their tourist trap of a museum. So when Lili asks Wren for help with her research, Wren cant resist the opportunity to throw himself into something real, even if he dislikes tourists on principle.

Lili and Wren only have a summer to find out the truth about Lilis ancestor. But the most surprising truths they uncover arent about the distant past, but about themselves right here in the present, and about what they want out of the future.

The growing attraction between Lili and Wren is undeniable as they bond over history and follow the mystery left behind by Lilis dad. Lili is a determined protagonist with a natural ability to make the other characters (and readers) like her. Wren, despite his initial foul temper, is portrayed with real depth. Johnson presents an entertaining cast of supporting characters: Lilis mother and sister are both likable and relatable, and they are joined by Wrens Nantucket friends, who are easy to get to know, and several oddball locals. With its dual point-of-view narration, this is an engaging and fast-paced read. Reminiscent of the Netflix television series Outer Banks, this is a mystery shrouded in history, wrapped up with a love story.School Library Journal (starred review)

Lilis and Wrens alternating first-person perspectives grapple thoughtfully with grief and romantic dilemmas. Sweet and insightful.Kirkus Reviews

[ A] sensorial grumpy-sunshine love story set on Nantucket. The teens interest in local loreand Lilis uncanny ability to charm Wren out of his perpetual crankinessfirst sparks amiable companionship, then sunny romance, conveyed via lively prose. Alluring history about Nantuckets maritime roots and its bustling present-day tourist scene enliven the idyllic seaside setting.Publishers Weekly

The slowly progressing romance between the two is centered in the narrative, but the topics of disability (Wren uses a wheelchair), grief, and the importance of family are also highlighted. Wrens existing relationship with his high-school girlfriend is handled with nuance and empathy. A fun read for those who want a strong plot to go along with the smooching.Booklist
