First published in 1937 by George Allen & Unwin Ltd. in London, this translation from the Turkish contains an account of the political, religious, and social complexities of India in the 1930s by nationalist Turkish writer Adivar (d. 1964). The new edition is annotated and contains an introduction by Mushirul Hasan (history, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi) who gives Adivar's biography and describes her importance as chronicler on social and political issues.
