This book presents the latest advances in intelligent biomaterials, a fast developing area for disease diagnosis and treatments, health management and rehabilitations. In particular, this book focuses on versatile types of emerging intelligent biomaterials as well as their multiple roles in smart biosensors, tissue engineering, medical meta-data analysis, micro/nanorobotics and artificial intelligence-based theranostics. These state-of-the-art technologies and updated knowledge are expected to reshape the future trend of biomaterials, and more importantly integrate biomaterials and intelligence together as a single entity to serve human health improvements. On this basis, this book aims to elucidate the concept and domain of intelligent biomaterials, and discuss on their cutting-edge applications. It will provide a vast readership, including students, scientists, researchers and professional staff in the trans-disciplinary community, with a brand-new viewpoint to learn about the frontiers of intelligent biomaterials.

Prof. Dr. Zhe Liu is currently the Vice-Dean of Department of Medical Sciences and Engineering, the Director of Division of Intelligent Biomaterials, a full professor of Medical School of Tianjin University, China. He acquired his PhD from the Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2007, and then joined the Molecular Imaging Program at Stanford (MIPS, Stanford University, USA) and Helmholtz Institute of Biomedical Engineering (RWTH Aachen, Germany) as a postdoctoral scholar. His research interests focus on the developments of advanced intelligent biomaterials, and their biomedical applications on stimuli-mediated non-invasive treatments/interventions against superficial malignant tumors (SMTs), central nervous system (CNS) diseases, image-navigated surgery, and visualized medicine in corporation with cutting-edge medical devices.

Dr. Liu is also the Fellow of Royal Society of Medicine (FRSM), the Fellow of Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC), and the Fellow of Royal Society of Biology (FRSB). He holds the membership of Radiology Society of North America (RSNA), American Society of Chemistry (ACS), Chinese Chemical Society (CCS), Chinese Anti-Cancer Association (CACA), Chinese Medical Doctor Association (CMDA) and Chinese Association of Ultrasound in Medicine and Engineering (CAUME).
