Organized by the U. of Granada, the April 1999 conference focused on applications of bio-inspired microelectronic circuits and systems. Published as extended papers, the contributions represent five invited talks (on various phenomena-to-emerging-technology advances), a demonstration of the autonomous mini-robot Khepera, a poster session, and 50 oral presentations on special topics beyond the usual fare, among them: neuromorphic vision systems, design and applications of cellular neural network chips and chipsets, interfaces and microelectronics for biological neural signals, neuromorphic learning VLSI systems, evolvable hardware, digital hardware implementations of neural networks, and design and fabrication of non-linear dynamical systems.
