Edited by (University of the West of Scotland, UK), Edited by (St. Johns University, USA), Edited by (Independent Researcher and Scholar, Afghanistan)
This volume consists of 11 chapters by researchers in education and other areas from Nigeria, North America, Europe, Asia, and New Zealand, who detail the scientific literature on social responsibility and theoretical positions on social ethics and the value orientation of higher education institutions, including policies and practices that embed social responsibility in institutions in India, Nigeria, Canada, New Zealand, and the US. They discuss curriculum development and individual social responsibility; integrating social and educational responsibility in various areas, including the undergraduate business education curriculum; social responsibility as a social inclusive idea and the process of teaching about refugees' social inclusion in Poland; the impacts of university education on economic development and social responsibility, including social and economic benefits for individuals and society; the influence of corporations on higher education and the decrease in professors' academic freedom; fostering engaged citizenship and investigating authority in community-based documentary classrooms; promoting perspective-taking, empathy, and social action through poverty simulation; the use of e-service learning in English language teaching education to develop the digital skills, teaching abilities, and professional identity of pre-service teachers; and an online certificate program for refugees. 'This book provides an in-depth discussion and focuses on curriculum and pedagogical changes to promote social changes and creatively developing a socially responsible culture through education. It reflects on different case studies in various countries. It is a well-timed book that addresses the important role that higher education institutes play in the development of socially responsible citizens that have the appropriate values, traditions, skills and cultural norms. These students will be able to tackle the challenges of the next generation to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all.' -- Dr Martina Jordaan, Senior lecturer: Community-based project Module, University of Pretoria, South Africa
