Arvustused

The magical ideas of John Dee are brought to life in this beautifully rendered and informative oracle set by John Matthews and Will Kinghan. The Secret Oracle of an Elizabethan Magus will become your map and compass as you use the wisdom found therein to inspire your own extraordinary journey.   Steven Bright, author of Tarot: Your Personal Guide, The Oracle Creator, and Tarot Shapeshifter "The Elizabethan Magus, John Dee, was a powerful practitioner of the magical arts.  In this Oracle, John Matthews has brought the power of his own magic as scholar and explorer of the inner worlds to bring Dee's wisdom back to life in a way that can empower our own lives.  With the evocative art of Will Kinghan, John has created a card deck that draws us compellingly into a world of the Elizabethan scholars, magicians, alchemists, and astrologers. Their explorations of the hidden powers of the world can open the doors to the discovery of the powers hidden within ourselves.     David Spangler: author and teacher of the Western Mysteries "John Matthews has created an excellent concept for his oracle deck which centers around the remarkable experience of Dr John Dee and his formidable work from the 1500s. Enter into the mystical world of the brilliant mind of this famous magician from Elizabethan times who excelled in times of great advances in learning and also persecution. The guidebook takes an in-depth and interesting look at John Dees background and work before talking us through how the oracle itself works and leading us into the card descriptions. The depth of research here is impressive and extremely fascinating to anyone with an interest in esoteric studies.

This is a 28 card boxed deck with stunning black and white imagery from Wil Kinghan. The cards are split into seven sub-sections of four which consider each aspect of John Dees expertise from astrologer to mathematician and also brings into focus other contemporaries and brilliant people from other eras with parallel experience. Elizabeth I also makes an appearance in the deck as Gloriana which is a beautiful bonus card. The artwork is gorgeous and really brings the card characters stories to life.

The qualities of each cards genius can be used in the oracle reading in conjunction with specific placements on John Dees Talisman of the Golden Temple. For people who are familiar with Tarot, the Talisman placements are very similar to the elemental worlds of Air, Earth, Fire and Water and the central placement relating to the querent. The guidebook also tells us what each card means in each of the placements. As well as detailed instruction into how to ask questions and carry out readings using the cards, John Matthews tells us how we can also use the cards to scry, for meditation and also introduces the reader to the power of the Enochian alphabet.

This Oracle deck is totally unique and a beautiful, informative addition to any Oracle deck lovers collection. I have learned a lot from the pages of this guidebook which has enabled me to carry out card readings based around the original and magickal work of John Dee. I look forward to practising more with the cards themselves and also mixing them in with other card readings. This Oracle deck will bring a greater depth into any card readers practise and I would highly recommend it."
