A must-have resource for all members of the transplant team, Kidney Transplantation: Principles and Practice, 9th Edition, provides comprehensive, up-to-date information on every aspect of this complex field. Drs. Stuart J. Knechtle and Lorna P. Marson, along with a global team of internationally renowned surgeons and nephrologists, offer balanced coverage of both surgical techniques and medical considerations related to kidney transplantation. With updates from cover to cover, this core reference delivers the practical guidance you need to achieve optimal outcomes in both adults and children.
  • Offers state-of-the-art coverage of all areas of kidney transplantation such as preservation of kidneys; mechanisms of rejection and the induction of tolerance; techniques of laparoscopic live donor nephrectomy; and immunosuppression.
  • Contains up-to-date outcomes data and analysis of the evidence supporting current practice in the field.
  • Includes new chapters on xenotransplantation and COVID-19 in renal transplantation.
  • Adds new information on normothermic regional perfusion to the discussion of DCD organ donation and ethics of transplantation, and new information on iBox (the first universal algorithm for predicting the risk of kidney transplant loss) to the biomarkers section.
  • Provides relevant, up-to-date information on kidney transplant for all members of the transplant team, with practical information on applied science, clinical information, and surgical procedures.
  • Features intraoperative videos and hundreds of superb illustrations to help readers visualize key concepts and nuances of renal transplantation.
  • Covers each major immunosuppressive drug in individual chapters, and provides a reference list of all randomized trials for convenient access to critical information.
  • An eBook version is included with purchase. The eBook allows you to access all of the text, figures and references, with the ability to search, customize your content, make notes and highlights, and have content read aloud. Additional digital ancillary content may publish up to 6 weeks following the publication date.

New chapter on xenotransplantation. This area is under active clinical investigation now and it seems likely to move forward in the next few years.

    • New chapter on future developments, including cell therapies (this could possibly be merged with the xenotranplantation chapter).
    • New chapter on defining metrics of success following transplantation.
    • New chapter on COVID in renal transplantation.
    • Added discussion of normothermic regional perfusion to the discussion of DCD organ donation and ethics of transplantation (this is a new and evolving approach to organ donation).
      • Expanded biomarkers section to include information on iBox (The first universal algorithm for predicting the risk of kidney transplant loss).
      • Modified History chapter
      • Additional intraoperative video clips (about 10-15 new)
      • New authorship for select chapters

      Arvustused

"...covers a broad range of topics relevant to kidney transplantation in a single, hardcover volume that includes 43 chapters and is just over 800 pages....this series has intended to serve as a comprehensive guide to the field of kidney transplantation. This book continues to fulfill that goal, with comprehensive discussions of all the basic aspects of transplant medicine..... offers a general overview of a broad range of topics and will be useful to anyone caring for transplant patients, especially those without dedicated training in the field such as students, hospitalists, primary care providers, or general nephrologists and surgeons. The broad nature of the topics covered means sacrificing some in-depth discussions, making this more suited for general practitioners than transplant nephrologists or surgeons. The chapters included here are uniformly well-written and include an abundance of useful references and illustrations.... Overall, the flow of chapters within the textbook is logical, and there are no obvious topics overlooked - an excellent, essential resource."
