He has also held positions in marketing and fundraising within nonprofit organizations. Hanberg's board and committee service extends to over a dozen organizations, frequently in leadership capacities, and has included participation in several capital campaigns.

He is the author of four books on nonprofit management, fundraising, social media, and board governance including The Little Book of Gold and The Little Book of Boards.
