Doll-making can be simple and spontaneous, or it can be very detailed and even, to be honest, sort of fiddly. There are endless approaches to doll-making, from the basic to the complicated, each with its own joys and challenges.

This book will walk you through the first steps from imagining a design to showing you how to add personality to your animal characters. Featuring patterns for a bunny, cat, dog, bear, monkey, fox, kitten, and mouse – stitch up your own menagerie of fabric friends to gift or keep. The projects will increase with difficulty as you make your way through the variety of skills, approaches, and methods covered. There will also be a mix-and-match component that will give you the option to personalise your own characters as well as a basic wardrobe with simple ideas for cute clothing to accessorise your makes. Doll-maker and designer, Katia Ferris will tackle all those common problems toymakers face as well as the variety of methods needed to confidently stitch up your own dolls from scratch. Packed with stunning lifestyle photography and step-by-step instructions, this book will cover everything you need to bring your own animal characters to life.
Katia Ferris is an artist and designer living in San Francisco, California. She is best known as a textile artist and doll-maker working under the name Luckjuju. Katia has been designing cloth dolls since 2013 and teaching doll-making classes since 2019. Her dolls are collected internationally. When she is not busy sewing tiny mouse pants, you might find her in the library, visiting with dogs in the dog park, or on a road trip with her husband, two children and dog, stopping at every fabric shop along the way.
