"Management of Medical Emergencies for the Dental Team" aims to offer a practical guide to dentists and their teams on the management of medical emergencies in the dental practice. It describes and discusses the emergency drugs and equipment that should be available, how to administer the drugs and use the equipment. It also describes the prevention, diagnosis and initial treatment of acute medical problems that may arise at any time in dental clinical practice. Divided into four sections, the first deals with the basics as well as the training, equipment, drugs and techniques needed to manage an emergency. The second section covers basic life support and management of the collapsed patient, while the third and fourth deal with managing emergency conditions that usually result in the unconsciousness and the conscious patient, respectively. Each emergency is described using an example scenario to give a practical illustration of how such an emergency might arise, the causes, signs and symptoms, prevention and management of the condition and, where appropriate, additional background information. It also provides the option of 3 hours of verifiable Continuing Professional Development for dentists and dental team members.
