For around half of the couples who have trouble conceiving the cause of infertility is sperm-related. Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) is the most common and successful treatment for male infertility. Here, the pioneers for the technique, along with authorities in the field, describe the underlying science of ICSI and other micromanipulation techniques. Practical advice for performing the techniques is covered in depth, including sperm selection, laser-assisted ICSI, and the use of piezo in ICSI. Examining the safety of ICSI in animal models as well as the impact of ICSI on the health and well-being of the children conceived through the procedure is discussed. This manual is an essential resource for clinical embryologists and laboratory personnel wishing to refine or develop techniques and improve outcomes.

A complete guide to intracytoplasmic sperm injection techniques (ICSI) and how to optimize the procedure to ensure success. Covers sperm selection, laser-assisted ICSI, and the use of piezo along with practical advice for trouble shooting. An essential resource for clinical embryologists and laboratory personnel wishing to refine their techniques.

Dr. Gianpiero D. Palermo is the pioneer of the ICSI technique, now the most utilized assisted reproductive technology worldwide. He is an endowed Professor of Reproductive Medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College. He is the Director of Andrology and Assisted Fertilization and a Clinical Attending in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at the Ronald O. Perelman and Claudia Cohen Center for Reproductive Medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine in New York City. He has been invited to speak internationally and has co-authored over 150 peer-reviewed manuscripts, over 30 book chapters, and edited a number of books. Dr Palermo's contributions to the field of reproductive medicine have also earned him prestigious awards from numerous international societies and universities. Dr. Nagy is currently the Scientific and Laboratory Director at Reproductive Biology Associates, Atlanta, USA. He obtained his PhD at the Free University of Brussels (VUB) on gamete micromanipulation/ICSI. Dr. Nagy has been invited speaker over two hundred international congresses all over the world and he has been frequently interviewed by public media. Dr. Nagy is member and board member of several national and international professional societies. Dr. Nagy is author or co-author of over 200 peer-reviewed publications, including several dozens of book chapters and five books.
