Papers from a March 2003 meeting focus on new nanostructured materials, with data presented on functional fullerenes and carbon nanotubes, non-carbon nanotubes such as BN and MoS2 tubes, and new biological nanostructures. The direction of nanoelectronics is explored in depth, and advancements in composite technology and novel applications for nanotubes are discussed. Theoretical and experimental determinations of structural and electronic properties are described, as well as characterization methods for molecular nanostructures. Some specific topics include assignment of chiral vectors in carbon nanotubes, surface modification of aligned carbon tubes, electronic properties of multiwall boron nitride nanotubes, and topological coordinates for deformed nanotubes.
