The motivation for alternative sources of energy is driven by societal needs and technical advancements in synthesis, design and characterization. Increases in raw material (oil, coal, natural gas) always lead to a reevaluation towards renewable and sustainable energy. The approach of the current generation is to investigate advanced responsive materials including polymers, ceramics and bi-functionalized materials for sustainable and green energy generation, transport, storage and usage.

This book's focus covers the potential applications of nanomaterials in energy generation and storage. All ten chapter authors are leading exponents in their respective fields and have been directly or indirectly involved with the ACS symposium or monograph through a rigorous peer review process. This monograph presents an up-to-date and eminently readable collection of papers in energy conversion, storage, and modeling, which would be of great interest to practitioners, directors, fund and program managers, researchers, and engineers in the field of energy generation and storage.

Dr. Jingbo Louise Liu received her Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Science and Technology Beijing in 2001 (Professor W. Li) and advanced training at the University of Calgary (Professor V. Birss). She was promoted to a tenured Associate Professor at Texas A&M University-Kingsville (TAMUK). Currently, Dr. Liu is the DEBI faculty fellow at the US Air Force Research Laboratory and user affiliate at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.

Dr. Sajid Bashir graduated from the University of Warwick in 2000/1 and conducted plant biological research in Cornell University from 2001-2004 (Professor J. Rose). In 2004, he joined Texas A&M University-Kingsville and was promoted to associate Professor due to his contribution to bio-nanotechnology. He has published more than five dozen peer-reviewed papers and delivered multiple invited presentations at professional societies and different universities.
