This magnificent book profiles the most exciting parks and key wild areas in India, Thailand, The Philippines and Malaysia. Through illuminating text, compiled by wildlife and conservation experts, and over 300 magnificent photographs, the book reveals the remarkable aspects of each featured area: its geography, its wildlife and plantlife, its local communities, and its conservation status. Individual colour maps show each area's location in the country and visitor information, on practicalities and activities such as trekking, birdwatching and diving, is given throughout. This evocative yet practical exploration of these exciting countries brings to life the natural wonders of this truly impressive destination.
Biswajit Roy Chowdhury, Buroshiva Dasgupta and Indira Bhattacharya compiled the information for the chapter on India. They have a wealth of conservation experience between them and are all on the board of the Nature Environment and wildlife Society. Stephen Elliott, author of the Thailand chapter, lives in Thailand, where he co-founded the award-winning Forest Restoration Unit. He lectures in wildlife conservation and ecology at Chiang Mai University. Nigel Hicks wrote the chapter on The Philippines. Nigel is a biologist, freelance writer and photographer; his work has appeared in numerous publications around the world. The chapter on Malaysia was compiled by the staff of the World Wide Fund For Nature (WWF) Malaysia, all of who have extensive scientific and conservation experience.
