This book serves as a practical guide to using numerical methods with MATLAB®/Python implementation for simulating fluid flow and transport in porous media, covering the fundamentals and their application in a way that is easy to understand for those without a technical background. In addition, it covers the governing equations of fluid mechanics and heat transfer, boundary conditions and initial conditions, dimensional analysis and scaling laws, and analytical and numerical methods for solving fluid flow and heat transfer problems.

  • Provides a comprehensive introduction to numerical methods for simulating fluid flow and transport in porous media.
  • Examines numerical methods and their implementation in porous media simulations using MATLAB® and Python.
  • Explains the applications for numerical methods in porous media, including transport, heat transfer, and fluid dynamics.

Dr. Mohamed F. El-Amin Mousa is a full professor of applied mathematics and computational sciences at Effat University, Saudi Arabia. He has over 25 years of research experience in computational sciences, applied mathematics, transport in porous media, heat/mass transfer, fluid dynamics, turbulence, reservoir simulation, etc. After obtaining his Ph.D. in 2001, he held research positions at several universities, including South Valley University (Egypt), Stuttgart University (Germany), Kyushu University (Japan), and KAUST. Dr. El-Amin is a scholar fellow for two prestigious foundations, Alexander von Humboldt (AvH), Germany, and the Japanese Society for Promoting Science (JSPS), Japan. The research of Dr. El-Amin has resulted in around 190 publications, including journal/conference papers, chapters, and books. He also edited several journal special issues and organized workshops and conferences. He just authored one book that will appear soon in Elsevier entitled Numerical Modeling of Nanoparticle Transport in Porous Media."
