Researchers in the chemical sciences and the plant sciences from the tropical regions of Africa and Asia provide an extensive three-volume reference on phytochemicals for students, researchers, and practitioners in a wide range of fields. The first volume covers fundamentals, modern techniques, and applications from such perspectives as phytochemicals as immunomodulators, plant metabolomics, analytical techniques in elemental profiling, computational phytochemistry in drug discovery: databases and tools, and phytochemical studies of five Nigerian indigenous vegetables. The second volume--on pharmcognosy, nanomedicine, and contemporary issues--discusses such topics as complementary and alternative systems of medicine, antimicrobial medicinal plants as effective natural bioresources, antioxidant potentials of cinnamon, the green biosynthesis of metallic nanoparticles, and toxic plants and phytochemical. The final volume is on marine sources, industrial applications, and recent developments. The topics there include marine antioxidants and assay methods, secondary metabolite accumulation and production through in vitro cultures, effective processing methods for fruits and vegetables, phytochemical biopesticides, and novel terpenoids as anti-cancer stem cell agents. This first book in this three-volume set provides comprehensive coverage of a wide range of topics in phytochemistry. With chapters from professional specialists from key institutions around the world, the volume starts with an introduction to phytochemistry and details the fundamentals. Part II discusses the state-of-the-art modern methods and techniques in phytochemical research, while Part III provides an informative overview of computational phytochemistry and its applications. Part IV presents novel research findings in the discovery of drugs that will be effective in the treatment of diseases. The chapters are drawn carefully and integrated sequentially to aid flow, consistency, and continuity.
