Soil scientists, chemists, agronomists, and other scientists survey methods for modeling changes in soil structure under different condition, and how those changes affect the soil's behavior. They cover impacts of soil organic carbon on soil physical behavior, linking some soil physical processes with structural stability, applying complex network models to describe soil porous systems, a history of understanding crack propagation and the tensile strength of soil, dynamics of soil macro-pore networks in response to hydraulic and mechanical stresses investigated by X-ray micro-tomography, and gas permeability in soils as related to soil structure and pore system characteristics. Some of the papers were presented at a symposium of the Society's 2009 annual meeting. Annotation ©2013 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
