This multimedia presentation is designed to complement the teaching of radiographic imaging regardless of the textbook being used. It includes instructional audio-visuals for the classroom and self-paced tutorials. The instructional part of the program was designed and developed with the lecture setting in mind. The visuals and audio present new information (lecture mode) and, to a limited extent, encourage learner involvement and interaction with the material (questioning mode). Each unit closes with a review/self-test section, which shows selected visuals from earlier in the program to provide the teacher the opportunity of posing new questions to help students evaluate their own learning. The teacher can use the images with or without the audio accompaniment. The program includes animations, full colour line art, photographs and radiographs, and occasional text screens to reinforce content. The instructional portion is available on slides or audio cassette. The tutorial portion presents the same content as the instructional program, but opportunities for review, reinforcement and self-testing. It has stated learning objectives, some interactivity, and multiple-choice tests at the end of each section.
Module 1 Radiographic equipment: the discovery of X-rays and their use
in diagnosing illness; radiologic procedures, the purposes of different
machines, their diagnostic and treatment uses; permanently installed and
mobile equipment, installation protections; self-assessment quiz;
examination. Module 2 Radiographic density and contrast: definition of
radiography density and contrast; acceptance range of density and the factors
that affect it; factors affecting contrast; self-assessment quiz;
examination. Module 3 Recorded detail: the definition of recorded detail -
penumbra and umbra; factors that affect recorded detail - geometric
unsharpness; other factors that affect recorded detail - materials and motion
unsharpness; self-assessment quiz; examination. Module 4 Distortion: the
definition of distortion; the difference between size and shape distortion;
analysis of the relationships of factors that affect distortion;
self-assessment quiz; examination. Module 5 Beam limiting and filtration:
