Get ready for a record-breaking trip around the U.S.A.!

From the world’s biggest bubblegum bubble in Alabama to the planet’s tallest volcanic columns in Wyoming, children will travel from state to state to discover a mix of quirky records and outstanding achievements.

From the weird to the wonderful (and back again!), these remarkable records cover a huge range of topics, including wonders of the natural world, historical firsts, sporting successes, awe-inspiring individuals, astonishing animals, and more. These mind-boggling facts include:

  • How many surfers you can squeeze onto one surfboard
  • Where you can find the world’s sunniest place
  • Who owns the tallest hat ever known
  • Where you can meet social media’s most famous cat
  • Which state is home to the world's largest pair of scissors AND the biggest dinosaur poo ever found
  • Where the longest pizza ever made was cooked up

What's more, children will explore records that cover multiple states, records from US territories, and even records set in space! They'll also learn how they can become a world record-breaker themselves—if they're up for the challenge!

Written by award-winning author Clive Gifford, and with bright, funny illustrations from Paul Hammond, this book is sure to be a winner for any child. So, as we mark 250 years of US independence, let’s hear it for the States!

Clive Gifford has travelled to more than 70 countries, climbed rocket launch towers, ridden on robots and flown gliders. He's had more than 200 books published and received nominations for or won Royal Society, School Library Association, Smithsonian and TES awards. He won the Blue Peter Book Award for Best Book with Facts 2019 for his title The Colours of History (QED). Clive lives in Manchester, UK. Paul Hammond is an award-winning Canadian artist, illustrator and comics creator working from his home in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. His work is bold and playful, with regular dips into the realm of the weird. He employs frequent use of hand-drawn lettering, pattern and texture, with a combination of traditional drawing methods and digital techniques. He thinks mistakes are beautiful and likes to leave them in when he's allowed.
