Douglas R. Richmond is a senior vice president with the Lockton Companies. He joined Lockton after 20 years as a managing director of Aons Professional Services Practice. Before joining Aon, Doug was a partner with Armstrong Teasdale LLP in Kansas City, Missouri (19892004), where he had a broad civil trial and appellate practice. He tried numerous major cases to verdict as first chair. In 2003, the Euromoney Legal Media Group selected him as one of the nations top reinsurance and insurance lawyers. In 1998, he was named the nations top defense lawyer in an insurance industry poll as reported in the publications Inside Litigation and Of Counsel. He is a Fellow of the American College of Coverage Counsel (Hon.), a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation, and a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates, International Association of Defense Counsel, and Federation of Defense & Corporate Counsel. As an elected member of the American Law Institute, he was an adviser for the Restatement of the Law of Liability Insurance. Doug is the lead author of Professional Responsibility in Litigation (3d ed. 2021); a co-author of Understanding Insurance Law (7th ed. 2025); a co-author of an insurance law casebook, Cases and Materials on Insurance Law (10th ed. 2025); the lead editor of The Insurers Duty to Defend: Issues and Analysis (2024); and an editor of the four-volume treatise New Appleman Insurance Law Practice Guide (2007). He has published over 100 articles in university law reviews and many more articles in other scholarly and industry publications. Doug has taught insurance law at the University of Florida Levin College of Law, the University of Kansas School of Law, and the University of Missouri School of Law. He earned his JD from the University of Kansas.
