Robert Richardson undoubtedly ranks among the most revered cinematographers of the last four decades. He photographed some of the films of Oliver Stone, Martin Scorsese, Errol Morris, Antoine Fuqua, and Quentin Tarantino, to name a few. As of now, he has ten Academy Award nominations and has won three times. In the category of the most awarded cinematographer of all time, he symbolically competes with Roger Deakins, a fifteen-time nominee and two-time Academy Award winner.

This book of interviews, conducted by the Czech cinematographer Jana Hojdova, offers a unique collection of insights. Richardson, after many years, speaks in great detail about his work. Hojdova possesses a deep understanding of both the technical aspects and the artistic contributions of the cinematography profession. Moreover, she delves into Richardson's personal nature which is deeply personal. Jana has earned his trust, allowing him to open up not only as a professional sharing many of the jewels of his craft but also a multitude of behind-the-scenes stories, but also on an emotional and intimate level. Interviews with Richardson about his films are complemented by discussions with directors, producers, actors, and other artists. Theyre also enriched with remarkable visuals from his films, behind-the-scenes photos, and Richardson's independent photographic work. This compilation showcases his artistry, vision, and personality in all their diverse manifestations. It paints a portrait of a dynamic artist who continually changes his style with each film, consistently infusing it with new elements and techniques, yet somehow he remains true to himself. Jana Hojdova is a Czech cinematographer, director, and producer. She graduated from the Cinematography Department at FAMU. Her film The Dream was nominated for Best Cinematography in the Short Film category at Camerimage 2015 and received the Jaroslav Kucera Award by ACK 2016 (The Czech Society of Cinematographers). Her documentary Chronicle - Petr Hojda was nominated for Best Cinematography in the Short Film category at Kamera OKO 2015. Jana has also made numerous music videos and commercials, as well as documentaries and short films. In 2021, Jana served as an international jury member for the Kamera OKO Film Festival, and 2023 for Famu Fest. She is the founder of Bridge Films, a production company. Jana served as the Director of Photography (DOP) for the feature films Mirrors in the Dark and And Then There Was Love..., both directed and produced by Simon Holy, with world premiere at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. In 2023, she worked as the DOP for the feature film Annexions, directed by Haruna Honcoop, and for the feature film Hello Welcome, directed and produced by Simon Holy. Her work on the film And Then There Was Love... earned her recognition from ACK for her contribution as a cinematographer. Currently, Jana is in the process of creating a feature-length documentary about cinematographer Robert Richardson, whom she met while writing her diploma thesis.
